"Greece" - The name itself is so magical. I am still freshly basking on my 7 days of "Greek Gallore" which was a magnanimous experience . As the saying goes in Greece the sun sets where ever you areπ. So lets begin with the places that we ventured - Athens (Historically Rich) the Acropolis and the temples are magnificent . They say in Athens during the existence of the Greek Gods, when people were given a choice between olives and water, they chose OLIVES π. Mykonos(The party town) small and vibrant , Santorini ( The scenic paradise) full of blue domed churches and white washed houses. There are other places and islands to see like the Corfu island , Delphy etc.
All of the above have their own mystical touch and the Greeks are warm and friendly apart from painstakingly GOOD LOOKING π. I was pleasantly surprised to have discovered the similarities between the Greek and the Indian culture, also they have a hint of Turkish culture to them for all the smoulderingly sweet staken Baklava they serve. To start on a lighter note Greeks are as loud and vocal as the Indians are in their own respective country (chuckles). They have a traditional dish named Faava which is nothing but the Indian thick daal with bread. Lets get more into the food and beverages, their olives , feta cheese, wines, Ouzu and Raki to name a few here are to die for. The local fast food is "Souvlaki" and "Gyro" which is a wrap with meat, salad, french fries and tzatziki sauce. Its the sauce that makes the wrap stand out from the remaining wrap fraternity. But again kissing post eating tzatziki sauce is not quite recommended..wink wink..hehe..reason being its made of greek yogurt with cucumber, garlic(now thats anti kissing ingredient), olive oil etc . Then moving on to the Moussaka - traditional greek food which is layered with meat , eggplant, potato etc. So to cut this short greece is THE PLACE to enjoy some traditional food which gracefully compliments their variety of local beverages. I remember eating a beef burger named Lotza burger, now the fun part here is their burgers are not the regular round breaded burgers. This burger came as a rich mouth melting soft as cotton beef patty loaded with greek yogurt and home made tomato puree along with pita bread yummmmmm...the taste and the aroma is still lingering over my senses. Not to miss the Greek coffee. Its like a expresso made with Greek coffee powder in a small copper vessel called "ibriki". You can enjoy this at any cafe or a joint.
Now lets drool over the white washed beauty , volcano land and the serene blue waters. They have the red beach, black beach and the hot water springs. You can hire a catamaran and enjoy sailing through the Greek waters . So in my 7 days of breathing on the Greek land I did it ALL. Drove around Mykonos and Santorini. Walked around the beautiful narrow white and blue lanes with small shops , cafes and boutiques. Like I keep mentioning I came back with a white washed clear clean mind and thoughts ❤. I totally recommend walking and driving around. Walking opens up to seeing those small homely pristinely white lanes and driving takes you to a different level of moving along the water line. Nature speaks to you there and is so very unimaginably beautiful. Things you need to do in Greece are - walk , eat , smile, bask in the whites and the blues, dance, listen to the music, enjoy the history and not to forget visit their Taverns . Another interesting fact is Greeks celebrate Easter a week after the rest of the world and their easter traditions are fascinating. Also not to forget pretty much everything there is home made.
One can never get enough of Greece. If you enjoy nature, history , culture, lounging this indeed is the place for you . Our very own globe π is so beautiful. So go out there, travel and live it up! Take my word on this, travelling surely brings the best out of oneself. While I have been blogging about Greece , I already have another travel destination registered in my head π. Read and enjoy the pictures...Until next time π
