Live it up !

It feels so good to get back to writing after a little break. Also I have been fishing for a good topic to write on and finally came up with this one - LIVE IT UP!! (Sounds so catchy). My recent conversations and observations has lead to me thinking that how life has changed from what it used to be. There is this typical life cycle that one follows from schooling to college then marriage/job followed by kids and then their education and the cycle repeats . Well does it always have to be this way ? Have you lost your identity in this chain of events ? Are you content from within ? May be some are and may be it's more of a comfort zone for a few. In this routine where have you placed yourself in terms of what you actually want to do in life and have you put your happiness aside for the ones around you? Mind you, putting your happiness over others is not being selfish its about living it up, as long as you are not causing any collateral damage. The fear of societal acceptance is so...

Alana and Katy's Story!!

Its wonderful to see how some of your friends are doing amazing things with their life and working hard towards achieving their dreams. I remember having a lot of friends while growing up (well I was a chatty kid) and as I started moving up the ladder of life I lost in touch with quite a few in the process. when I moved to Chennai 4 years ago I did not know anyone around . So one day I happened to go visit the community centre, I sat there all by myself trying to fit in and suddenly I hear a bubbly voice calling out my name. I turn back to see my very old vivacious friend Nafisa. Life throws such pleasant surprises at you. Nafisa Johar and I were friends in our gawky teens Haha !! This gawky teen has now grown to be an active wife/mother and an entrepreneur . Not just life but even she surprised me hehe. !!.  This girl confidently tells me about her first venture " Alana " . This started in Dec 2012  in collaboration with  Alifya Yemani. P.S. Alifya's bright smile...

Fairy Lights - The shopping haven !!

" SHOPPING " - This 8 letter word shouts out excitement for most of us. There was a time when shopping meant stepping in the busy markets and sweating it out. That moved to one notch up to strolling within well lit air conditioned stores and malls . This culture further got improvised to the recent trends of hosting flea markets and multi brand exhibitions that involves participation by various vendors displaying variety of products and catering to all kinds of needs/crowds under one roof.  Talk about bringing innovation in the simplest things in life Haha!! Honestly if you ask me I like this new trend, it makes the whole buying experience so much more fun and convenient.  Fairy lights  is one such initiative that functions on these lines.  Two very vibrant ladies in their late 20's - Alifiya mamoowala and Jumana Izzy  started Fairy Lights in 2017. Initially the ladies had their own inhibitions and doubts about putting together their first exhibition la...

"Unsettled" and "Settled" .....

Its ironic and may be contradicting to use the words "Settled" and "Unsettled" at the same time. But that's just how best it describes by life. I see myself as both settled and unsettled. Its subjective how we use it. Yet again I am moving to a different city in a months time (Woohooo!!) and lately have started catching up with people to say "goodbyes" , "will miss you" and "see you soon's" .  Its nice to know that you have made so many new friends in yet another new city. Chennai was a new city for me 4 years ago. I came here with absolutely no preconceived notions, like a clean slate and enjoyed my time here. So the other day i had a brief conversation with an old friend regarding my move. She - Do you like it this way? Me - like what way? She - Always moving around....city to city Me - (Thinking to myself) I don't know whether I like it or not , but that's how it is for me :) and I'm happy. I had a big s...

The Journey...!!! ❤

I have been procrastinating all this while and finally got back to my blog page . Must say it feels good. For me 2019 started on a muffled, confused and a busy note. When everyone was churning out resolution after resolution for the new start of the year, I was staring up in the sky wondering about all the confusion this year brought in for me. I was cloudy in my head and wasn't sure as to where life was heading - both professionally and personally.  But as they say patience and calmness eventually helps you pass through the shitty times and off course the people who love you help you through it.Well that always comes true for me. I am pretty sure it's just not me but for many of you out there who must have felt the same or have been through a similar concoction in their heads and hearts at some point of time and eventually sailed through it. So all this ranting that I have been doing is to circle around a small word with a big meaning called - JOURNEY !! I am going to write...

Questions - to ask or not to ask !!

Last month there was a wedding in the family. Well the word wedding leads to a lot of F's 😋 (pun intended lol) fun, frolic , family re-union , food etc. I want to write or rather elaborate a tad bit more on the "family re-union" piece.  So since some of us met after a long time obviously there were pleasantries exchanged , asked about the current whereabouts and so on. There are levels of questions asked. Some people are quite mindful and know where to stop, lets call them type A and then the type B who are like fire balls, they want to get down to the details of every bit and corner of your life and they ensure there are no stones unturned. What starts with a simple how are you ? , What are you up to these days ? Stretches to asking way more personal questions about how much are you earning ? Why are you living alone ? Why are you not marrying ? , who are you neighbour's? and the trail of questions are never ending. I get inquisitive on their inquisitive attitude a...

Modernization - are we there ???

Before I started writing this piece, out of curiosity I consulted "Google" uncle on the definition of "Modernisation" and it threw a couple of similar definitions at me. As a matter of fact modernisation is the transition from traditional , rural society to urban and modern society....hmmmmmmm.....I always believed that certain logic's and words are comprehended with a slight variance by each individual. Perception and all you see. In today's era everyone talks about being so called modern. Till quite an extent one is termed modern, when you wear western clothes, speak English, are not very religious, using slang and profanity (apparently the new "cool") etc. This is something I totally differ from. A person is now rated modern more on the outlook instead of the actual Alma matter and the attitude towards life and others. For me modernisation is accepting others as they are, giving space and freedom , respecting all the cultures and their followe...
